Frequently Asked Questions About ASGA New Orleans
Other questions? Call 352-373-6907 or email conferences@asgaonline.com. You’ll speak with a real person.
1. Will we have time to sightsee while we’re in New Orleans?
Yes! If you arrive early on Friday, you’ll have the whole day to see New Orleans! After the conference concludes Saturday evening, you’ll have time to see the town. And Sunday would be a perfect day to sightsee!
2. If I’m by myself, will I “fit in?”
Yes! You’ll easily connect with other student leaders or advisors. ASGA’s popular “Connector Cards” help you break the ice and exchange ideas and information with other students and advisors. You’ll meet them during workshops, breaks, at lunch, sightseeing, and at the hotel. You won’t be lonely!
3. Are any meals included?
Yes! Your registration fee includes a free lunch (a Saturday boxed lunch with choice of “po-boy” sandwiches, fruit, chips, and drink) and a free hot buffet breakfast for guests who stay in the ASGA room block at the official conference hotel.
4. Can I change the names of our registrants if someone can’t make it?
Yes! You can change the names anytime before the conference starts. See Register.
5. Can you help me find a roommate at the conference hotel?
Yes! Email conferences@asgaonline.com with your name, gender, email, arrival and departure dates, and any special requests.
6. Will I need a rental car?
Probably! If you want to go sightseeing, you’ll need to take Uber, Lyft, a taxi, a shuttle, or get a rental car/van — the hotel is about 13 miles from the French Quarter. ASGA chose a hotel near Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport to make travel convenient and inexpensive. Sleeping room and food costs are much lower than in the French Quarter, and parking is discounted. The conference hotel also has a free shuttle to and from the airport, day or night.
7. What is the best way to get to the conference location?
Use the free hotel airport shuttle if you’re flying. If you’re driving, see Travel and Directions. If you stay at another hotel, you’ll need a rental car, taxi, or Uber to get to and from the conference location, airport, and sightseeing.
8. Do I have to be an ASGA member to come to the conference?
No! Some non-member schools always attend ASGA conferences. However, ASGA members save $100 per person at this event. Annual ASGA dues are just $397 for schools under 4,000 full-time students, $597 for 4,001–10,000 students, $897 for 10,001–20,000 students, and $1,097 for schools over 20,000 full-time students. If you’re bringing a group of four or more students, membership almost always pays for itself. See Join ASGA.
9. Where can we eat and not spend a fortune?
A free hot breakfast is included if you stay at the official conference hotel, and a boxed lunch is free to all conference registrants. Dinners are on your own. See Experience New Orleans!
10. What type of schools attend?
All types and sizes of schools attend the New Orleans Student Government Training Conference. There are usually a few more private colleges and universities than public universities and community colleges — simply because there are more private colleges nationwide.
11. How many schools attend?
Usually, about 100-150 students and administrators from 15-30 institutions of all types and sizes attend. From 10-15 states are represented, with roughly equal numbers of community colleges, private institutions, and public institutions.
12. What’s included in our registration fee?
16 workshops and roundtables, all handouts, a boxed lunch, and a hot buffet breakfast for hotel guests. See Conference Fees.
13. How should I dress?
“Business” or “business casual” is recommended at all conference functions.
14. Can I see the schedule and workshops in advance?
Yes! Click on Program. It’s updated constantly with any changes or improvements to the program.
